Older Adults and Social Media

Do not underestimate the size of your audience that is over 50 (or 40 or 30). The trend continues upward, and this is just over the last YEAR – “Social networking use among internet users ages 50 and older has nearly doubled — from 22% to 42% over the past year.” – Pew Research
Just to put that in perspective, here is a chart on internet usage by age from 2005 to 2008.

  1. I agree completely with the post and the stats.

    I have had business stacked recently and the majority of the clients are 50+.

    These are clients who have never had a web presence and are now jumping on the bandwagon after getting advice or by doing research. They may be behind, but it’s great for me, as I now have another stream of clients coming through.
