The directions provided by Google, Yahoo!, etc. are reliable. They will bring you to Vassar’s Main Gate using this address:
124 Raymond Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY 12604

Pick up a visitor’s parking pass at Main Gate (it is an entrance located at a traffic circle.) Just tell the guard you’re on campus for a conference (if they ask what office say College Relations.)

From Main Gate to North Lot: proceed straight ahead and take a left at the stop sign. Continue straight (keep to the left) to the end of campus where there is parking on the left.

From North Lot to Rocky: To get to the venue you’ll walk back along the same road ~2 blocks and the building is on the right just past the two long dorms (you can walk along either side of the dorms — along the road, or in the quad.)

Inside Rocky: Enter in any door (the door next to the rounded part of the back of the building is best) and go to the second floor — all the refreshments and registration is in the hall.

Check out this quick look at Rocky 200, where all sessions will be held.

The room is equipped with a projector and more (the screen does go down over the blackboard.) All attendees will have guest wireless network access. Wired lines will be available for presenters. As for power, at the presenter area there are at least two outlets, and in the audience there are 6. We’ll have power strips to share the juice.

Featured Speaker: Kevin Prentiss

It is with great pleasure we announce Kevin Prentiss will be a featured speaker for the HighEdWeb New York Regional. Kevin was most recently honored with the Best in Track award at the national HighEdWeb Conference in October 2009. Kevin will present, “Unleash the Beast: How Web Pros Will Lead The Revolution While Riding a Unicorn on a Rainbow of UGC.”

Kevin Prentiss has been an internet entrepreneur for 12 years. For the last 5 years, Kevin has been speaking about opportunities to use technology in innovative ways to create community, increase group engagement, and foster retention in higher education. He is also the founder of Red Rover, a social software directory designed to increase engagement and knowledge sharing.

He has presented lectures at over 200 college campuses, as well as keynotes and training for the ACPA, NACA, APCA, ACUI, HEWEB and the FYE conferences. He loves acronyms, especially FTW. Kevin is the author of Macmillan’s “Social Media, Higher Education’s New Best Friend.”

Announcing the HighEdWeb NY Regional, May 6-7, 2010

Vassar College will host the HighEdWeb New York Regional on May 6-7, 2010. Organizers Megg Brown (Vassar College), Jason Woodward (Cornell University) and Rachel Reuben (SUNY New Paltz) have begun planning and have announced a call for proposals for speakers. Registration will be coming in early April, and more details about this conference will be posted here when they become available.

The great news is – this will be a free conference! Thanks in advance to our primary sponsor, PressPublisher.com! We’re seeking additional sponsors as well. We’re going to be contacting a hotel that is within walking distance of Vassar for a group rate, and we’ve made arrangements for a fun social evening at the Dutch Cabin for a dinner and social evening Thursday night.
