Do not underestimate the size of your audience that is over 50 (or 40 or 30). The trend continues upward, and this is just over the last YEAR – “Social networking use among internet users ages 50 and older has nearly doubled — from 22% to 42% over the past year.” – Pew Research
Just to put that in perspective, here is a chart on internet usage by age from 2005 to 2008.
Jakob Nielson’s recent study Scrolling and Attention shows, “Web users spend 80% of their time looking at information above the page fold. Although users do scroll, they allocate only 20% of their attention below the fold.”
